Is it OK to wear Sunglasses at a Wedding?

Written By

You’re getting married on a beautiful sunny day, it could be on a beach with the sea in the background or outside on a summers day.

So can you wear sunglasses? Of course you can! It is your day, do what you want!

If you are a guest attending a wedding then wear them when needed, if you are outside in the sun then of course, informal moments where you are chatting at a drinks reception outside, then of course.

When not to wear sunglasses at a wedding?

Sunglasses are a fashion accessory, but only wear them when needed, when the sun is out and they will help you then put them on, but there are certainly times when you should take them off.

Formal photos

If you are part of any formal group photos at a wedding then do take your glasses off for the photos, you want to see the eyes, expressions and emotions of the guests, not dark shades looking back. If you are the bride and groom then you can do what you want, but it is certainly nice to have some photos with them off.

Speeches

If you are giving a speech then stand up and speak without the sunglasses, even if you are outside and the sun is shining bright, people want to see you eyes and look at you, and you want to be able to make eye contact with the people you are speaking to.

The obvious

Don’t wear them inside, when the sunset is set or walk round with them on the top of your head, weddings can be formal and relaxed, but you don’t want to be the only person in the wedding photos who is always seen with your dark shades on.

Sunglasses for the groomsmen

If you know sunglasses will be needed on your wedding day then getting a matching set for all the groomsmen is a great idea. For candid shots of your groomsmen standing outside or waiting with you at the ceremony can look great if not only are they all wearing the same suit and attire, but also matching sunglasses.

You don’t need to spend a fortune, you can pick up sets specially for this occasion so you buy a few of them that all match. Depending on your style and the style of the wedding there are plenty of sunglass designs to choose from, shop around, you don’t need to buy branded glasses.
